How Movies Are Changing Lives

May 5th, 2009

I take my fourteen year old and off we go. Let's just say I was already feeling good because I didn't have to whip out my wallet. I don't have the words to relay just how inspired this movie made me feel. I've followed Nick Nolte's career here and there, I find this movie to be some of his best work ever. I liked the fact that he was not all perfect looking and cuddly, his scratchy voice is his trademark. Yeah, it does get a little cheesy in some spots but these are very minor if you're able to look at the big picture.
After the movie, my fourteen year old and I talked and recited quotes from the movie all the way home. If this doesn't sound amazing to you, that's because you don't know my son. This young man doesn't waste his words and if I can pull one to two sentences a day out of him I'm lucky. We both left feeling good, motivated and inspired. Maybe these quotes from the movie and Dan Millman's book Way of The Peaceful Warrior on which the movie is based will inspire you, give you food for thought and make you feel good.
I'd gladly pay this time to see the movie again and most certainly will add this one to my DVD collection right next to The Secret and What the Bleep Do We Know. I take these quotes and add them to my son's school agenda, a type of notebook his school uses to track homework assignments and parental communication. So instead of just signing my name every night, I write a quote or a positive kudo for my son to read to himself in school the next day.
Independent artists have long struggled to gain recognition and attract an audience. Without the backing of a major label it can be very difficult for independent artists to obtain radio play time, that is, until now. Podcasting a revolutionary new medium, has opened new distribution channels for independent artists. Podcasting is the process of distributing audio files using the RSS format and has become very popular with the younger generations.
With the use of technology, independent artists have a unique opportunity available, using technology they can significantly expand the exposure of their music.
Bands who have a similar genre can exchange adverts in their podcasts and increase both of their fan bases. Quid pro quo promotion that costs little but can result in huge returns.
Independent artists have a unique opportunity available to them. Podcasting is a fairly new medium that has far reaching distribution opportunities. Independent artists were once restricted by geography, playing at local clubs to increase their base. Podcasting has no borders.
Producing a podcast can mean the difference between success and failure for an independent artist.
All the world over, the music of the more primitive of the uncivilized races may be said to move on parallel lines, and it is only as tribes and nations rise somewhat in the scale of nature that their music begins to display any marked degree of differentiation. Down on what might be called the bed-rock of humanity they are all pretty much alike, and in the national music of the most widely removed races the same phenomena present themselves with but trifling modification. Singing or any type of vocal sounds is common everywhere on planet earth. The primitive human being gives expression to the primary emotions and passions by means of the voice or speech as a matter of instinct, just as is done by the brute creation.

How Lead Singers Get Noticed

May 5th, 2009

So you want to be a good lead singer and front a popular band or even an orchestra? If your answer is yes, then do you have a distinctive singing style or are you singing songs with the style of other singers?
What I mean is that how are you going to be different and stand out from thousands of other bands and singers doing just cover versions and imitating the singing styles of their favorite bands and lead singers?
Here are some tips on how to develop your own distinctive singing style. Firstly, go view the performances of famous singers fronting their bands from various musical genres. Notice how distinctive they are as each singer deliver the songs with their own natural distinctive style.
Let us take a look at some of the more distinctive singers starting off with Mick Jagger of The Rolling Stones. Take note of how he pouts his lips and strut cockily on stage exuding sex appeal and confidence at the same time. The style has become his distinctive trademark. It is Mick Jagger's personal branding and only imitators of Mick Jagger do what he does and imitators will remain just that, imitators.
Fronting your band and get noticed allboils down to personal branding so that you are perceived to be different from others and thus attract attention and notice.
I am sure that if I name you some more popular lead singers, you will immediately associate with that singer mentally having a clear mental picture of that singer during a performance.
Take Elvis Presley, Earth Wind and Fire, Bono of U2, Madonna, Kate Bush, Cindy Lauper, Michael Jackson and even The Village People for example. I believe that with each of these names, you will conjure up a mental images of the singers and how they perform. Why is that so? It is because of their distinctive singing style ie personal branding.
Next, take notice of how these singers keep time and rhythm when they move on stage? Watch which action, vocal range and style during the delivery of their songs appeal to the crowd and how they whip their audience into frenzy. Take note of their facial expressions and body language at each stage of the song and how they tell an emotional story with the lyrics of the songs that can get people teary eyed.
Then learn and borrow some of these traits from them, and develop them with your own unique style blended in.
Once you have developed your personal singing style, the next step is to rehearse with your band thoroughly. Your band must know what you want such as when do you want to bring the song to a climax or when to bring it down to tug at heartstrings, when to pause in order to create an impact and other technicalities of the songs you will be performing.
Go buy some good music sheets so that the band can play together with the same music sheets and scores. If you leave them to play by ear, the band members will interpret the songs in their own way and you will also waste time and energy to get the band to play tightly together. You don't want your band to listen too often to the original version either because by doing that, they will also be playing in the style of the original song and again, will not be distinctive. Do the musical arrangements yourself!
Once this is done, rehearse until the band and you are inseparable components of the song and when that is done, you are now ready to front a good band as its lead singer and get noticed as a singer in your own right!

How Important To Show Your Respect To A Grieving Family By Sending A Sympathy Gift Basket

May 5th, 2009

Showing your respect to a grieving family may include sending cards, gifts, or even a sympathy gift basket. Sympathy gift baskets can show the family members how much you care and there are many ways to be creative with the gift and choose special items that can help them heal from their emotional pain.
Some of our close family friends recently lost a parent in an accident. It was difficult to reach them while they traveled to the funeral, so we decided to send them a sympathy gift basket. The condolence gift basket was presented to them at the hotel they were staying in, and imagine their surprise when they learned that we had sent something across the country especially for them! It was an extra special gift since we were able to add a handwritten note and pick out the gifts ourselves.
A sympathy gift basket can be made of flowers, balloons, snacks, treats, and note cards. We chose to include gourmet nuts and sweet treats, as well as a few small books and heartfelt note cards for a special touch. A sympathy gift basket can also be made up of flowers; showing sympathy with white or yellow flowers is perfect for pulling together a memorable gift and works well in a bereavement gift basket.
Periods of grieving and emotions can be overwhelming for most people, and we were able to express our best wishes with a condolence gift basket. A bereavement gift basket can helped to cheer them up, and made them feel a little more light-hearted and relaxed. It may have helped to ease the pain of the situation. For children experiencing loss, a sympathy gift basket can be especially valuable; during the turbulent emotional times, children can benefit from soft plush toys, small games, and even their favorite snack foods. The couple that received our condolence gift basket were very thankful to have some treats for the children in the family as well. Putting together a few valuable tokens of appreciation and thoughtful gifts helped them improve their mood and get through the funeral in a more positive state of mind.
When searching for the gifts, we found that a bereavement gift basket or condolence gift basket can also include a combination of candles, fresh fruit, relaxation gifts, or even gourmet snacks. We considered putting together some of our own home-baked goods for a sympathy gift basket, and baked some of the family's favorite treats and snacks to add to the package. Tea and coffee are another valuable addition to a condolence gift basket. These can be purchased from a gourmet food store or boutique, or even online.
A bereavement gift basket does not have to be very elaborate to send a positive message. You might consider adding small gifts such as a notebook or journal so the recipient can write their thoughts down during their grieving period. Another addition to the condolence gift basket may be some relaxation music or CDs; many families who are grieving lose track of time during the stressful and emotional time, and simply playing soothing music can help everyone manage their emotions better.
Adding a handwritten note to your condolence gift basket or bereavement gift basket is the finishing touch for your gift. The family that received our sympathy gift basket were very touched by the gesture, and just showed some respect for the grieving family after their loss. A gift basket can help bring forward some happiness during troubling times, and gave us a creative way to express our best wishes.

How Do I Put Music On My PSP?

May 5th, 2009

Sony Playstation Portable or PSP has become very versatile in terms of its applications and functional approach. The initial thought of having a portable game console have paved the road of multi-tasking and multi-function console, it sure has out grown its creativity from creator. The PSP console is more than just a game consoles, it has the capability as a portable video & movie player, web browser, personal organizer, music player and more.
I'm going to share with you how do I put music on my PSP and making it my universal digital walkman. It is a very simple procedure to put any of your favorite music into PSP. Before we begin discussing how to download or transfer music on to the PSP, we must understand that PSP do not accept all forms or formats of music file. Depending on the version of firmware your PSP is loaded. Early version of PSP firmware can only playback mp3 music format and it does not support playback of WMA and WMV audio files, making it less appreciable. However much later, firmware of PSP is able to playback WMA and WMV audio files. To do that on any early version, the PSP firmware needs to be upgraded to playback WMA and WMV audio files directly from PSP. And even if your PSP are able to playback WMA and WMV audio files I would not recommend because of its file size compare to mp3 format.
Generally mp3 music or audio file format takes up far less storage space compare to any audio or music file format. To convert any audio file format is relatively a simple task as lots of mp3 file format converter programs are already available from the internet. You can find huge list of mp3 format converter from the search engine and most of them are capable of converting any music or audio file format to mp3. The procedure provided by most mp3 file format converter program are most dummy proofed. Hardly anyone will find any difficulties in using these programs.
Once you have converted you favorite music files to mp3 then you are ready to put music on PSP. To put music on PSP you first need to connect your PSP to your PC by using the USB cable. Next, you press "Home" button and follow by scroll to "Setting" using the left-right buttons. And finally you search for "USB Connection" and press the "X" button to enter your selection.
On your PC, it will begin to show a removable drive has been detected and mounted on "My Computer" window. Click and open the new removable drive and a folder named "PSP" will appear within the drive. Open the "PSP" folder and you should find "Music" folder from within it. If the "Music" folder does not exist, manually create it yourself.
Now you can begin to put your favorite music on PSP console. Simply drag and drop if you like or copy & paste your favorite music and store in this folder of the memory stick. Once you are finished with transferring or putting your music file onto PSP, press the "O" button on your Sony PSP console to exit your PSP from the USB connection. Unplug your Sony PSP from the USB connection and you can begin playback your mp3 music files and simply enjoy your music anywhere and anytime you want.

How Do Different Types Of Guitar Strings Effect Your Sound?

May 5th, 2009

There are so many different brands of guitar strings out there, and within the brands there are many different gauges and types. This can be overwhelming for beginners, so I want to briefly discuss different types of strings and associated sizes and why you want to carefully consider the types of strings you would want to use.
First of all let's briefly discuss nylon strings. These strings are used on classical guitars and are conducive for fingerpicking. If you own a classical guitar or are considering purchasing one, these are the strings you will use.
Now if you're playing a standard electric or acoustic 6-string guitar, you're going to want steel strings. Some of the more popular brands are D'Addario, Dean Markley, Ernie Ball, Elixer, GHS, and Fender. Try the same size of each brand and you will begin to notice differences. I remember trying D'Addario, Dean Markley, and Ernie Ball .009s and I was partial to D'Addarios because it seemed like my pick would get caught on the strings to o easily. So definately experiment with different strings to find out which you prefer.
As for the different sizes, they come in sizes ranging anywhere from sets of .008's to .013's. Now, you may wonder what this means. Well the .008-.013 range describes the thickness in inches of the high E string. So when someone says 8's, 9's 10's, they're typically referring to a set of guitar strings with the high E string of that thickness. The remaining strings are also thicker or thinner depending on the thickness of the high E string, although you can buy individual strings to suit your personal tastes.
What thickness should you choose? I prefer D'Arddario 9s for my electric and Elixer 10s for my acoustic. For me, anything thicker then 10s give my fingers a tough time. But also know that the thicker strings will have a much better tone. As a beginner, I wouldn't recommend set thicker then 9s for starters until you build up some left hand strength. I don't recommend 8s at all as they tend to break too easily.
If you're going to be playing dropped tunings, then you should consider thick strings in the .012-.013 range (Ernie Ball Not Even Slinky Strings are great). This will allow you to tune down and still have tight strings that don't flap
around. The thinner strings will usually be too slack when you're tuned down.

How Designers Lay Out Wall Tapestries

May 5th, 2009

If you recently picked up wall Art for residential interior decoration, you could infer how complicated and difficult it may be to string up a home Decor Accent Tapestries properly. Different than posters or a framed prints, displaying art tapestries has been known to be rather backbreaking to make it precise. As destiny would have it, there are some efficient practiced thoughts and tricks that you can observe to cause your interior decorating appear as proficient as it can.
First off, investigate what home decor wall accessories you would prefer to have to lay out your tapestries. The most dependable manner is utilizing a low-cost wall hanging rod. Contemporary art home Decor Accent Tapestries rods are commonly selected over drapery rods since the artistic tapestry wall hanging hanging rods are a bit more solid and ought not stoop in the middle. If you have a long and tall vertical tapestry wallhanging such as the Portiere wall hangings, you will show it on a wall that is thin and tall, but make sure there is some extra space framing it to head off the wall from appearing like its busy. This will counter the tapestry from looking like its trivial and junior-grade.
If you own a immense art Wall Hanging, it would be best to article it on a wall wherever it possibly can be discovered with ostentation. You do not desire to muffle the splendour or lead off a family members sight with additional art. Immense wall Art can transmute your house into a palace, address them with wonder and value.
Maybe you paid for two humbler wall art designs, but merely have a single rod, seldom stew, you can easily make this work. You may pose 2 narrow and long tapestry wall hangings adjacent to one another on a solitary tapestry wall hanging rod, just recall to provide a lower limit of 3 to 6 inches amidst them to obtain the illusion of detachment. Please take down that this should serve exclusively either tall and narrow wall hanging designs like our Art Nouveau While You Were Out Set. How Can You Find A Good Quizzes Site

May 5th, 2009

There is no reservation that using internet is one of the great ways to increase and develop our information, knowledge, experience and also it has been used as an entertainment tool for all ages. Thus, there are many entertainment categories such as games, puzzles, movies,..... etc on the internet. However, what is the constructive type of entertainment that increase our comprehension?
One of these types is Quizzes games. What is quiz? it is a form of game or mind sport in which the players (as individuals or in teams), attempt to answer questions correctly. There are hundreds of sites or may be more providing Quizzes; but do they all add value to us! ( i.e. Quizzes that give us knowledge and increase our information ). Currently with a lot of sites on the internet today, it is tough to pick out the best combinations of fun and increasing information.
So, how can I find a practical and appropriate quizzes game site and what are the main circumstances that should be available in that site? there are many features should be existing, for instance free accessing to the quizzes is the first and most important feature ( free registration ) ; there are several reasons for that such as it will make the site more popular. Secondly, the quizzes game should be challenging; it different from site to site, some websites divide quizzes into levels and other choose time limitation for adding exciting to the web. In my opinion finding a site providing both ( Levels and Time limitation for challenging ) will be more attractive. Third, you must find one that will motivate you to challenge what you know and increase your talent in competition.
So, Quizzes games are great because they are just what their name suggests: games that provide us with fun, promote our knowledge at the same time, increase our information, making us feel that we don't spend time for nothing in the contrary it evokes our emotions for more and more of spending valuable time on internet to learn, discover and communicate with others

How And Why You Should Tune Your Guitar

May 5th, 2009

Wouldn't it be nice if you were able to buy something, use it at your own leisure, and then just be able to put it away without having to worry about it. Well, sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but things just don't work that way. Lets say you buy a vehicle. You're going to have to maintain it to some degree whether it be oil changes, tune ups,or whatever. If you purchase a dog, it will need to be fed and housebroken, and when you own a guitar, there are things that need to be done so that you don't look like a fool when your jamming your favorite riffs. You will soon realize that you must tune your guitar on a regular basis. As much as we would like to skip this step, my professional opinion would be not to.
There is a standard, as there always seems to be, involved in a guitar tuning and it is conveniently labeled the standard guitar tuning method. The standard involves tuning the strings from the thickest to the thinnest. The order should be E, A, D, G, B, E. This method is the easiest methods because it is the easiest for tuning the most amounts of scales and chords. The way to start this method is with the E string. The E string is the thickest, and the least likely to fall short of tuning. The A string is the next string that you should tune. The way to adjust the A string is to place your finger on the fret, pick the fifth and sixth strings while adjusting the fifth string tuning peg until the two notes sound the same. The D string comes next in line. The way to find the proper D string note is to find the A string that is located just behind the fifth fret. You then turn the fourth string to that note. Tune your G string to the note that rings when you put the first finger on your left hand just behind the fifth fret. The B string should sound like when your first finger of your left hand is placed behind the forth fret. You should recognize that the tuning of the B string is the only one in the method that uses the fourth fret and not the fifth. Last is the E string which is where you place the first finger of, you guessed it, your left hand behind the fifth fret on the B string.
There are other ways you can tune your guitar, but they can get more complicated. You can use an online guitar tuner. You can customize these tuners or you can use the standard method in order to hear how the note is supposed to sound. There are many sites that you can visit in order to find an online tuner, but when you find a site that you like, you should bookmark it in your favorites so that you can easily find it the next time.
If you don't have a keen ear attuned to different pitches, you might want to invest in an electric tuner. With this device you can look at a tuning monitor to see how off-tune each string on your guitar is. Then, by following the needle on the display, you can tune each string on your guitar according to the reading being given. Even if you do have a trained ear, electric tuners can come in handy if you're trying to tune your equipment just before a gig. Noises and other distractions can keep your ear from creating just the right sound on your guitar strings.
Other methods for tuning a guitar aren't as easy as the ones already described. Piano tones can be used to tune the strings on your guitar. However, if your ear is not trained to tuning this way, it probably won't help much, plus you need access to a piano. You can also tune your guitar by using octaves or harmonies, but these methods are typically for musicians who have been tuning their strings for many, many years. If you're just a beginner, it is best to go with the easier methods that do not require as much skill and

How American Idol Successfully Changes Average People Into Stars

May 5th, 2009

Once a year, millions of Americans gather in front of their televisions to learn who will be the next American Idol. 9.9 million viewers watched the very first American Idol episode in 2002. By the end of that first season, more than 22 million viewers sat down to watch Kelly Clarkson be crowned the first American Idol. As season five came to an end, 36 million viewers were on hand to watch Taylor Hicks be crowned the season five winner.
Some commentators believe that Idol ratings are high, because people like watching train wrecks. In the same way that traffic jams are caused by drivers "rubber necking" to see a traffic accident, many people believe that American Idol's charm is the fact that viewers can see hopeful performers get sliced and diced by Simon Cowell and the other American Idol judges, Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson.
However, if that were the case, American Idol ratings would be strong out of the gate and then slowly taper off until the final performances are done. But, it does not work that way. With the lone exception of season four, more viewers have tuned in for the season finales than the season premieres.
So, the phenomenal success of American Idol cannot be attributed to harsh criticisms offered by the judges. American Idol has something more. Simon once told a contestant, "If this were a paid concert, this is the point I'd leave." If people were watching American Idol to hear Cowell's famous sarcasm, then the fun would be over once the final twelve were selected.
What Makes American Idol So Successful?
Any person who can successfully answer that question should be able to package the Idol formula and make millions of his or her own. But, the answer to that question is not so easy to uncover.
Many people have ventured to answer this question and to package their own American Idol spin-off programs. To date, no one has been able to create his or her own version of this winning formula.
7 Common Reasons Given For The Success Of American Idol:
The American Dream - Millions of people want to be rich and famous. When they look on their television screens and see people following their dreams of success in the music industry, they are energized to cheer for the contestants.
The Personal Drama - Viewers are taken into the lives of the contestants. This enables the viewer to form personal attachments with the individual performers and to root for the people they would like to win the show.
Viewer Participation - Simon, Paula and Randy are not left in charge of the hen house. Instead, American Idol allows their viewers to participate in the selection process.
The Music - People love the music. While individual viewers may not always appreciate songs previously sung by Barbara Streisand or Barry Manilow, they know that the next performer might be singing a song they really love to hear.
The Talent - People enjoy watching talented performers. Once the contest is narrowed to the final twelve contestants, viewers get the chance to see a live concert performed by talented artists, in every episode.
The Contest - There are only two other programs on television that beat the American Idol finale in the ratings every year. Those programs are the Super Bowl and the Academy Awards. All three programs have been designed to identify the best-of-the-best.
Short Season - American Idol runs half as long as the typical television series. Many people believe that since the show runs only half a season that it leaves viewers wanting more and anticipating the new season with greater desire.
It Is About The Talent
Many people suggest that one should have thick skin to participate in a program of this type. For some contestants, the thick skin is definitely a necessity, especially when you find yourself on the receiving end of a Cowell quip like, "What do you think we are looking for -- a two-year-old who can't sing?"
Randy Jackson was quoted, "The judges are continually surprised at how people who should know they can't sing show up thinking they have a chance."
The audience is often surprised too.
But, the audiences loved William Hung. He did not know how to sing and he knew it, but he enjoyed singing even if he did not have the talent. Hung was the only exception to the golden rule about talent. Hung got a recording deal and his CD sold 295,000 copies, outselling a dozen of the other Idol contestants who have gotten recording deals.
Self-Confidence Is A Requisite... Or Is It?
Many critics suggest that a contestant in American Idol should bring confidence to the competition if they want to win. But, the truth is that American Idol is as much about the making of a star as it is about locating the talent.
Standing in front of an audience of 36 million viewers and three brash judges does take some self-confidence, but confidence will not make an untalented contestant a better performer.
As season six was gearing up, a young lady named Melinda from Memphis was told by Simon Cowell, "You walk in here with no confidence and no attitude and yet you are a brilliant singer . . . You are in the top 2% of good singers this year."
When a contestant hears words such as these, they cannot help but find in themselves the confidence to become the star they deserve to be. This is how stars are made. The judge's help the talented find their way through the process, and those with talent learn how to be the star that America wants to hear on the radio.
